MEDICAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIST III - EIGHT (8) POSTS
(Department of Curative and Rehabilitative Services)

V/No.305/2008

Salary Scale: KSh.16,692 - KSh.20,289p.m

(Job Group 'H')

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:

(i) be in possession of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade C or its equivalent with at least a C in Mathematics, English or Kiswahili and a C in any other science subject; and

(ii) have successfully completed a Diploma course in Medical Engineering from a recognized institution. OR have successfully completed a Diploma course in Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution and in addition undertaken a one year course in Medical Engineering related field.

Duties and Responsibilities
This is the entry grade into the Medical Engineering Technologist cadre.

Duties at this level involve:
(i) equipment fault diagnosis and basic repair and maintenance; and
(ii) servicing of standard medical equipment in health institutions in the Ministry.

DENTAL TECHNOLOGIST III - FOUR (4) POSTS
(CURATIVE AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES)

Salary Scale: KSh.16,692 - KSh.20,289p.m. (Job Group 'H')

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:
(i) be in possession of at least Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE)Mean grade C (plain) or its equivalent with grade C in the relevant subjects, and

(ii) have successfully competed a Diploma course in Dental Technology and have been awarded a Diploma in Dental Technology or passed an equivalent qualification from a recognized Medical Training Institution.

Duties and Responsibilities

This is the entry grade into the Dental Technologist cadre. Duties at this level are of limited scope and complexity and carried out under the guidance and supervision of a more senior officer.

Specifically, duties and responsibilities involve provision of supportive services in dentistry. These include preparation of appliances required in dentistry in health institutions.

In addition, the officer will be expected to assess patients needs, verify and maintain information relating to patients, order and maintain records of supplies.

PLASTER TECHNICIAN III - FIFTY (50) POSTS

(DEPARTMENT OF CURATIVE AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES)
V/No.307/2008

Salary Scale: KSh.13,733 - KSh. 17,527p.m

(Job Group 'G')

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:
(i) be in possession of at least Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with at least a mean grade of D+ (plus)or its equivalent qualification; and

(ii) have successfully completed at least two (2) years pre-service training at Kenya Medical Training Centre (KMTC) or any other recognized training institution and have been awarded the Plaster Technician's Certificate.

Duties and Responsibilities

This is the entry grade into the Plaster Technician cadre. Duties at this level involve a variety of duties and responsibilities of a limited scope and complexity under the guidance and supervision of a more senior officer.

Specifically, the duties and responsibilities include application and removal of plaster and traction, recording of procedure carried out on patients, counseling patients; ordering plaster and other supplies and assisting in planning and organizing orthopaedic care.

COMMUNITY ORAL HEALTH OFFICER III -TEN(1O) POSTS
DEPARTMENT OF CURATIVE AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES

V/No.308/2008

Salary Scale: KSH. 16,692 - KSh.20,289 p.m (Job Group 'H')

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

(i) Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade C (plain) and at least a C (plain) in English/Kiswahili and Biology/Biology Sciences and at least a C- (minus) in either Chemistry, Physics/Physical sciences, Mathematics or General sciences; and

(ii) a Diploma in Community Oral Health from Kenya Medi¬cal Training College (KMTC) or its equivalent from a recognized institution.

Duties and Responsibilities
This is the entry and training grade for this cadre. Specific duties will include participating in oral health demonstrations, exhibition and giving lectures to communities and schools; collecting data on fluoride testing in water samples; analysis and interpretation of results and advising the relevant authorities accordingly; diagnosis and treatment of common dental conditions; temporary and permanent dental restorations; reducing simple fractures of jaws; extractions and disimpac-tions; drainage of dental abscess; suturing to stop bleeding; and prescription of analgesics and anti-biotics.

CLINICAL OFFICER III - FIVE HUNDRED AND FOURTY EIGHT (548) POSTS

(DEPARTMENT OF CURATIVE AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES)

V/N0.309/2008

Salary Scale: KSh. 16,692 - KSh.20,289p.m (Job Group 'H')

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:

(i) be in possession of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), mean grade C, with at least a C in Biology, English or Kiswahili and a C- in any other two science subjects;

(ii) have successfully completed at least three (3) years pre-service training at a Medical Training College or any other recognized Medical Training Institution and have been awarded a Diploma in Clinical Medicine or its equivalent; and

(iii) have been registered by the Clinical Officers Council.

Duties and Responsibilities
This will be the entry grade into the Clinical Officers' cadre. Duties at this level will be of limited scope and complexity and the officer will normally work under the guidance of an experienced Clinical Officer or a Medical officer. Work at this level will mainly involve seeing and examining patients; diagnosing and treating patients ailments at an outpatient department in a hospital or health centre.

In addition, the officer will be expected to assist in planning and conducting Primary Health Care activities, teaching students attached to hospitals and health centres, supervising and counselling a small number of staff engaged on routine patients' care and ; giving support and health education to patients.

MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST - ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FOUR (1 24) POSTS

(DEPARTMENT OF CURATIVE AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES)

V/No.31 0/2008

Salary Scale: KSh.16,692 - KSh.20,289 p.m. (Job Group 'H')

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:
(i) be in possession of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education(KCSE)Mean grade C or its equivalent qualification with at least a C in Biology or Biological Sciences, Chemistry or Physical Science, English or Kiswahili and C in Mathematics or Physics;

(ii) have successfully completed a Pre-Service Training at the Kenya Medical Training College or any other institution recognized by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board and have been awarded a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Services; and

(iii) be registered by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board as a Registered Medical Laboratory Technologist.

Duties and Responsibilities
This is the entry grade into the Medical Laboratory Technologists cadre. Duties at this level will be of limited scope and complexity and will be carried under the guidance of a more senior officer. Specific duties and responsibilities will include offering general diagnostic or other laboratory services in a medical laboratory, blood transfusion services or Division of Vector Borne Diseases.

NURSING OFFICER III - SIX HUNDRED AND EIGHTY SIX (686) POSTS
(DEPARTMENT OF CURATIVE AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES)

V/No.312/2008

Salary Scale: Ksh.16,692 - Ksh.20,289p.m. (Job Group 'H')

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:

(i) be in possession of at least the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade C with at least a C in Biology, English or Kiswahili and a C- in any other two (2) science subjects; and

(ii) have successfully completed three (3) years pre-service training at a Medical Training Centre or at any other recognized training institution and have been awarded the Kenya Registered Nurse or Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse Certificate by the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Council of Kenya.

Duties and Responsibilities

This will be the entry grade into the Nursing Officers' cadre.

Duties at this level will be of limited scope and complexity and will be carried out under the guidance of a more senior officer. Specifically, duties and responsibilities will involve provision, supervision and planning of nursing care at an outpatient department or ward in a hospital. In addition, the officer will be expected to assess patients' needs for nursing services; verify and maintain information relating to patients' admission; keep records of drugs and other supplies; and guide, supervise and counsel staff performing routine clinical duties.

PHARMACEUTICAL TECHNOLOGIST III - ONE HUNDRED (100)

(DEPARTMENT OF CURATIVE AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES)

V/No.313/2008

Salary Scale: KSh. 16,692 - KSh 20,289p.m. (Job Group 'H')

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:

(i) be in possession of at least the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education(KCSE) mean grade C or its equivalent with C- grades in the relevant subjects; and

(ii) have successfully completed three (3) years of Pre-service training at a Medical Training Centre or at any other recognized training institution and been awarded a Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology, OR possess an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

Duties and Responsibilities

This is the entry grade into the Pharmaceutical Technologist cadre.

Duties at this level will be carried out under the guidance of a more senior officer and will mainly involve dispensing and compounding medicine; verifying and maintaining information relating to drugs issued to patients; ordering and recording of drugs and other supplies; guiding and counseling trainees and supervision of other staff working under him/her.

PHYSIOTHERAPIST III -TWENTY FIVE (25)
(DEPARTMENT OF CURATIVE AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES)

Salary Scale: KSh.16,692 - KSh.20,289p.m. (Job Group'H')
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:

(i) be in possession of at least Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean grade C with grade C- in relevant subjects; and

(ii) have successfully completed at least three (3) years pre-service training at a Medical Training Centre and been awarded a Diploma in Physiotherapy or possess an equivalent qualification from a recognized Medical Training Institution.

Duties and Responsibilities
This is the entry grade into the Physiotherapist cadre.

Duties and responsibilities at this level will be of limited scope and complexity and the officer will normally work under the guidance of a more experienced officer. Work mainly involves planning and supervision for provision of physiotherapy services to patients at an out-patient department or in a ward or those patients referred for physiotherapy in health institutions.

In addition, the officer will be expected to assess patients needs including rehabilitation, verify and maintain information relating to patients, order and maintain records of relevant supplies including finished articles made at the Physiotherapy Department as well as guiding and supervising staff working under him/her.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST III - TWENTY (20) POSTS
(DEPARTMENT OF CURATIVE AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES)

V/No.315/2008

Salary Scale: KSh.16,693 - KSh.20,289p.m. (Job Group 'H')

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:

(i) be in possession of at least Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean grade C with C- in the relevant subjects or its equivalent; and

(ii) have successfully completed at least three years pre-service training at a medical training centre and been awarded a diploma in Occupational Therapy or possess an equivalent qualification from a recognized Medical Training Institution.

Duties and Responsibilities

This is the entry grade into the Occupational Therapist cadre.

Duties and responsibilities at this level will be of limited scope and complexity and the officer will work under the guidance of an experienced Senior Officer. Work mainly involves planning and supervision and provision of occupational therapy services to patients at an out-patient department or in a ward or to those patients referred for occupational therapy in a health institution.

In addition, the officer will be expected to assess patients needs including rehabilitation, verify and : maintain information relating to patients, order and maintain records of relevant supplies including finished articles made at the Occupational Therapy Department as well as guiding
and, supervising staff under him/her.

ORTHOPAEDIC TECHNOLOGIST III -TWELVE (12)

DEPARTMENT OF CURATIVE AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES

V/No.316/2008

Salary Scale: KSh.16,692 - KSh.20,289p.m. (Job Group 'H')

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:

(i) be in possession of at least Kenya Certificate of secondary Education (K.C.S.E) Mean grade C or its equivalent with C- in the relevant subjects; and

(ii) have successfully completed at least three years pre-service training at a medical training centre and have been awarded a diploma in Orthopedic Technology or possess an equivalent qualification from any other recognized Medical Training Institution.

Duties and Responsibilities
This is the entry grade into the Orthopaedic Technologist cadre. Work at this level is of limited scope and complexity and carried out under the guidance of a more senior officer.

Duties and responsibilities involve provision of supportive services in Orthopaedics and entails preparation and fitting of appliances that are required for Orthopaedics in health institutions. In addition, the officer will be expected to assess patients needs; verify and maintain information relating to patients; order and maintain records of supplies as well as guiding and supervising of staff working under him/her.

ENROLLED NURSE HI - FOUR HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN (415) POSTS
(DEPARTMENT OF CURATIVE AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES)

V/No.317/2008

Salary Scale: KSh. 13,733 - KSh.17,527p.m. (Job Group 'G').

For appointment to the grade of Enrolled Nurse III, a candidate must:-

(i) be in possession of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean grade C- or its equivalent with C- in the relevant subjects; and

(ii) have successfully completed a pre-service training at a medical training institution and been awarded the Enrolled Nurse Certificate by the Nursing Council of Kenya.

Duties and Responsibilities
This is the entry grade into the Enrolled Nurses cadre. Duties and responsibilities at this level are of a limited scope and complexity and performed under the guidance and supervision of a Nursing Officer or Clinical Officer as the case may be. Work involves planning and execution of nursing care for individual or a group of patients. An Enrolled Nurse will be expected to observe specific procedures.

HEALTH RECORDS AND INFORMATION OFFICER HI - FOUR (4) POSTS

(DEPARTMENT OF CURATIVE AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES)

V/NO.318/2008

Salary Scale: KShs. 16,692 - KShs. 20,289p.m. (Job Group K)

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

(i) Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean grade C with at least a C in English or Kiswahili and Mathematics at least a C- in any one (1) of the following subjects; Physics or Physical Sciences, Chemistry, Biology or Biological Sciences;

(ii) Completed three (3) years training at a Medical Training Centre or any other recognized training institution and awarded a Diploma in Health Records and Information Management.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities will include:
(i) being head of a section in a Health Records and Information Department;
(ii) control of reception, registration and appointment procedures;
(iii) supervision of staff in the section;
(iv) administering editing and other discharge procedures;
(v) maintenance of bed Bureau and waiting list procedures for inpatients;
(vi) supervision of storage and retrieval of medical records;
(vii) co-ordinating the collection of medical statistics from the various sections of the department;
(viii) supervision of coding and indexing of diseases and surgical operations in accordance with International Classification of Diseases and International Classification Procedures in Medicine; and
(ix) maintenance of patients master index, diagnostic index, surgical operation index and other medical records indices.

THERE MANY POST GRADUATES OUT THERE SEEKING JOBS.DO YOU ONLY EMPLOY PEOPLE WITH DIPLOMAS AND KCSE CERTIFICATES ONLY/ TOO BAD

I'm also concerned...so what happens to the degree holders in the fields advertised? If you don't find it necessary to employ them too, why don't you scrap off the courses? I'm so bitter
