World Vision Kenya Job Opportunities

World Vision Kenya is a leading non-governmental Christian Humanitarian Relief and Development organization with projects in most parts of Kenya.

We wish to urgently recruit a highly competent, proactive and self-driven person to fill the following position within our establishment:

1. Water Engineer (To be based in Trans Mara)

Purpose of position: To implement and supervise community based water supply and sanitation facilities in close co-ordination with the local community and the relevant Government ministries.

Major Responsibilities

  • In close liaison with the District Water Officer and beneficiary communities, identify water projects that need to be rehabilitated and water points that need to be created.
  • Prepare and conduct training for Water Users Association to empower them to run their own water supply on sustainable basis.
  • Supervise the rehabilitation of boreholes, shallow wells and other water supplies in strict adherence to the Kenya Government Regulations and the SPERE standards.
  • Develop proposals for marketing to get additional funds for water supply systems.
  • Prepare and evaluate all contracts to be awarded to vendors for supply of goods and services related to water and sanitation project.
  • Prepare regular reports on the implementation of the water program
  • Co-ordinate and network with the government, Ministry of Water Development, Community Based Organizations and NGOs working in the district.
  • Construction of sanitation facilities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • A minimum of a Bachelors degree in a water resources related discipline with five years experience in implementation of community based water supply systems.
  • Experience in participatory training methods e.g. Participatory Rural Appraisals (PRA), Participatory Learning Approaches (PLA) and Participatory Hygiene and Sanitation Transformation (PHAST).
  • Requires a self-motivated and resourceful person capable of utilizing local resources in implementing local community programs
  • Experience in management of USAID funded programs
  • NGO experience will be an added advantage
  • Willingness to work in harsh and stressful environments
  • Must be a person of integrity
  • Must be a committed Christian
2. Systems Administrator

Purpose of Position: To administer software applications, networks and databases to ensure effective support of business processes with minimum downtime. This position reports to the ICT Manager.

Major Responsibilities
  • Prepare, design, implement and operate an efficient ICT infrastructure and continually improve ICT services to ensure efficient customer service.
  • Install and optimize business application e.g. Lotus Domino Server, Sunsystems, Ms-SQL etc
  • Install configure and optimize Windows Server Active Directory
  • Ensure Adequate, reliable and secure backups of all business data is available at all times.
  • Implement and test BCP/DRP on regular basis
  • Provide support on all business application
  • User training
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor Computer Science or equivalent from a recognized institution
  • Three years' working experience in a equivalent position
  • CCNA, MCSE.A+, N+, MCP certification
  • Experience in Lotus Notes, Win 2000/XP and Sunsystems will be an added advantage
  • Experience in the administration of LAN and WAN
  • Excellent training, capacity building and trouble-shooting skills
  • Must have good communication and inter-personal skills
  • Team player able to work in a multi-cultural environment with little supervision
  • Must be a committed Christian and person of unquestionable integrity
3. IT Helpdesk Administrator

Purpose of Position: To manage the IT Helpdesk for efficient customer service delivery and provide first and second level support to IT Customers. This position reports to the ICT Manager.

Major Responsibilities
  • Manage the IT Helpdesk
  • Provide first and second level IT Support
  • Ensure Service Level Agreements are designed and implement
  • Manage customer service satisfaction be performing consistent and periodic reviews of work orders and ensure proper escalation processes are being performed.
  • Ensure ITIL Compliance in customer service delivery
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor Computer Science or equivalent from a recognized institution
  • Three years' working experience in a equivalent position
  • ITIL, A+, N+, MCP certification
  • Experience in Lotus Notes, Win 2000/XP and Sunsystems will be an added advantage
  • Experience in the administration of LAN and WAN
  • Excellent training, capacity building and trouble-shooting skills
  • Must have good communication and inter-personal skills
  • Team player able to work in a multi-cultural environment with little supervision
  • Must be a committed Christian and person of unquestionable integrity
4. National Gender & Development Coordinator

Purpose of Position: To provide leadership of all gender ministry functions within WVK in an effort to pursue transformational development. The National Gender and Development Coordinator will also ensure gender mainstreaming at organizational and programming level.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Develop WVK Gender and Development strategy that will inform and guide mainstreaming of gender at program and project level.
  • Monitor implementation of gender and development policy and strategy within the WVK programming.
  • Build capacity of WVK staff for a gender responsive organizational culture and programming.
  • Mobilize resources for the growth of the gender unit
  • Advise WVK on the internal policies that regards to gender issues.
  • Represent WVK as the Gender and Development point person at local and international forums.
  • Liaise with the Government and other development agencies to understand trends and changes in gender and development.
  • Participate in development of national policies and strategies to influence gender equity.
  • Support WVK to undertake gender audit to gain more insights on levels of staff awareness on gender and development.
  • Develop advocacy initiatives that ensure respect for and protection of women's and girl's rights.
  • Provide technical support to gender related programs and projects.
  • To promote and strengthen operational research and documentation of best practices
  • Support the implementation of the WVK Gender mainstreaming project
  • Support the roll out of second edition GTT2 and monitor its operationalization
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• A degree (masters preferred) in social sciences or a Development related field.
• At least 6 years work experience in related field
• Must have knowledge in research, tools for gender analysis and reporting.
• Must be computer literate
• Must have monitoring, supervisory and coaching skills
• Good presentation, communication, advocacy and facilitation skills
• A strong aptitude for organizational change, innovation, learning and team building.
• Language fluency in English and Swahiii
• Ready to travel extensively

I really like and appreciate the way world vision works in supporting the community, I once worked with them in an enterprise project steered by JOCK NOBEL Australlia,but I would suggest thaat they they give more of this orpotunities to the local people coz they understnd the problems from the ground.

i truly appreciate the remarkable efforts that world vision is putting to help the less fortunate and vulnerable in society. i once worked as an attache e in world vision Kenya-Nairobi and learn t a lot from them. i would encourage you to provide more opportunities for students to be attached at your zones and field areas..there after give them a chance to work with you since they have first hand experience and require just a little training....

WVK is a snob and aloof. Try visiting their offices and you'll see. Even the security guys at the gate are so cold and rude. Try sending mails, they're not answered even if you're the one extending a helping hand to them.

Hi world vision.am steve,in msa.me and my friend already have a busuness plan and need to start a cyber business but we lack initial capital.we have been approaching banks and microfinances but they tell us to provide collaterals and that they give funds to established businesses.we are i.t specialists with a vision but the money we earn currently does not come exactly on time and not in full amount so it straight hand to mouth.we trully need help from you guys as the story i saw on t.v about people baking bread and cakes for a living sponsored by world vision.
