Kenya Roads Board (KRB) Job Opportunities

Kenya Roads Board (KRB) is a state corporation established by the Kenya Roads Board Act, 1999. Its object and purpose is to oversee the road network in Kenya and thereby coordinate its development, rehabilitation and maintenance funded from KRB Fund and to advice the Minister for Roads on all matters related thereto.

For effectiveness, the Board seeks to fill positions as shown below:

MANAGER AUDIT
(Ref.2008-1)

Reporting to the General Manager, Technical Compliance, the holder of this position will be responsible for assisting the Board to examine and evaluate the technical compliance, performance and financial processes of road agencies in order to achieve effective utilization of the Kenya Roads Board Funds (KRBF).

Duties and responsibilities

  • Reviewing, assessing operational, financial managements systems, policies, procedures, guidelines for KRBF;
  • Analyzing annual road works programs (ARWP) and expenditures;
  • Carrying out technical compliance, financial and performance audits on road agencies to assess compliance with standards and specifications;
  • Supervising, monitoring and evaluating road sector auditors (consultants) to verify audits are carried out in accordance with terms of reference;
  • Gathering, collating and analyzing financial data and reports to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in fund management. Conducting post audit reviews;
  • Developing and implementing audit programs and audit plans for RMLF
Qualifications
  • University degree in B.com (Accounting, Finance, Economics) or equivalent; CPA (K) or equivalent qualifications.
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant work experience in auditing/accounting/ finance At least 5 years at senior management level in auditing;
  • Self motivated and able to work independently.
  • Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use computers and related packages
SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR
(Ref.2008-2)


Reporting to the Manager Information, Information & Communications Technology (ICT), the holder of this position will be responsible for effective and efficient ICT operations including maintenance and administration of all KRB Secretariat IT systems-Local Area and Wide Area network, communications, data collection and management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Manager, ICT, the Systems Administrator will be responsible for:-
  1. Maintaining all local hardware and software, including server administration, Configuration, upgrades as well as all workstations;
  2. Installing, configuring computer systems and networks (LAN/WAN;
  3. Creating and managing users and user accounts;
  4. Ensuring that systems and networks are secure and that valuable or sensitive data is protected from undesired access.
  5. Training of users of computer systems as per policy;
  6. Monitoring systems and network activity in order to quickly detect any problems related to systems security, performance, or general functioning that may arise, and responding appropriately.
  7. Maintaining emergency recovery systems and procedures, troubleshooting and anticipate system problems;
  8. Responsible for designing, developing and maintaining the board's website.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Degree in computer science
  • A minimum of 6 years experience working in a full computerized data management environment
  • Superior communication skills and staff management
  • Experience in Linux (or UNIX) & MS Windows 2003 operating systems management & computer applications including programming in both Microsoft Office products and Linux based systems.
  • Must be Microsoft certified professional and knowledgeable in network design and configuration,
ASSISTANT ENGINEER- WORK PROGRAMMES

The holder of the position will assist in reviewing of work programmes presented to the Board by Road Agencies to ensure that they fully satisfy the requirements of work programmes set up by the Board. In addition the position will be responsible for consolidation of expenditure returns on quarterly and annual basis for monitoring purposes.

Duties and responsibilities
  1. Reviewing work programmes to ensure that the programmes are done in KRB's standard formats;
  2. Developing standard reporting formats and assisting in training of users;
  3. Updating databases as appropriate
  4. Preparing expenditure and management reports;
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
  • Degree in civil engineering or equivalent from a university recognized by Engineers Registration Board.
  • A minimum of three years practical experience in monitoring work programmes and reporting systems;
  • Effective communication skills and excellent customer management skills;
  • Ability to be a good team player;
  • Advanced Computer literacy.
