Kenya Coconut Development Authority Job Opportunities

Kenya Coconut Development Authority, a State Corporation in the Ministry of Agriculture (Mombasa) invites applicants who are between 21 years and forty five (45) years of age and below and are suitably qualified for the following posts:-

1. EXTENSION OFFICER I - KCDA SALARY SCALE 7 (1 post)

Duties and Responsibilities

An officer at this level will be responsible to the Senior Extension Services and Research Officer. Work at this level will include the following; supervise the implementation of extension and training for coconut industry in line with guidelines for the improvement of production and processing of coconut.

Preparation of annual work plans and budgets. Liaising with stakeholders in development of suitable extension packages. Oversee the production and distribution of certified seed/seedlings in accordance with national, regional and international standards. The officer will also promote sound husbandry practices for improved productivity. The officer will be responsible for supervision of the Extension Assistants working under him/her.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, the candidate must have:
  • Worked for three (3) years in a comparable position in agriculture or related field;
  • A Bachelors Degree in either Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Agriculture or Horticulture from a recognized Institution;
  • Attended Senior Managers Course from recognized institutions for a period not less than three weeks;
  • Undertaken quantitative and qualitative research techniques courses and has an ICT Certificate in statistical analytical packages such as SPSS.
  • Attended Senior Managers Course from recognized Institution for a period not less than three weeks;
2. RESEARCH OFFICER - KCDA SALARY SCALE 7 (1 post)

Duties and Responsibilities

An officer at this level will be responsible to the Extension and Research Manager. Work at this level will entail, undertaking industry research needs assessment and making appropriate recommendations, undertaking research and development of coconut industry technologies. The officer will also undertake farm trials for evaluation of new coconut varieties for suitability of adoption.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, the candidate must have:
  • Worked for three (3) years in a comparable position in agriculture;
  • Served in a Research organization for a minimum period of three (3) years;
  • A Bachelors Degree in either Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics and Horticulture from a recognized Institution;
  • Attended Senior Managers Course from recognized Institutions for a period not less than three weeks.
  • Undertaken quantitative and qualitative research techniques courses and has an ICT - Certificate in statistical packages for analysis such as the SPSS.
3. MONITORING AND EVALUATION OFFICER- KCDA SALARY SCALE 7 (1 post)

Duties and Responsibilities

An officer at this level will be responsible to the Senior Extension Services and Research Officer for the following;, coordinate preparation of work plans, budgets and compile periodical reports, coordinate planning, monitoring and evaluation of projects in line with the authority's strategic plan, performance contract and the service charter. The officer will also establish and maintain a coconut industry databank.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, the candidate must have:
  • Worked in an equivalent comparable organization for a minimum of three (3) years in project planning and monitoring;
  • A Bachelors Degree in either Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics or Agricultural/ Horticultural related fields from a recognized Institution;
  • Post graduate diploma in development management, planning, monitoring and evaluation;
  • Demonstrated competence in ICT,
  • Attended Senior Managers Course from recognized Institution for a period not less than three weeks;
  • Knowledge and certification in SPSS or MS project packages;
  • Experienced and conversant with performance contracting, strategic planning and compilation of periodical annual situational reports.
4. BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT OFFICER- KCDA SALARY SCALE 7 (1 post)

Duties and Responsibilities

An officer at this level will be responsible to the Senior Business Development and Quality Assurance Officer. The officer will be responsible for carrying out the following functions; promoting the development of a coconut incubator programmes for local processors in collaboration with other stakeholders such as KIRDI, KIE and KTTI among others.

Facilitate establishment and revitalization of coconut industry as business venture. Develop programs for improving coconut processing efficiency and capacity. Develop quality standards for coconut products in liaison with KEBS. Establish and maintain a show room for cottage industry products and processes. Facilitate patenting of locally produced products in collaboration with Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI). The officer will also prepare and promote business plans for establishment of coconut cottage industries.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, the candidate must have:
  • Three (3) years work experience in an equivalent and comparable position in the Agricultural related fields;
  • A Bachelors Degree in either Agribusiness or Agricultural Economics or Business related degree from a recognized Institution;
  • Be computer literate;
  • High leadership qualities, merit and ability in work performance as demonstrated by results;
  • Attended Senior Managers Course from recognized Institution for a period not less than three weeks;
5. MARKET DEVELOPMENT OFFICER - KCDA SALARY SCALE 7 (1 post)

Duties and Responsibilities

An officer at this level will be responsible to the Senior Business Development and Quality Assurance Officer. The officer will be responsible for carrying out market intelligence; developing internal and external markets in liaison with Kenyan Missions Abroad and other marketing bodies abroad; networking and promoting the industry.

In addition, the officer will be expected to promote value chain approach and value addition in the coconut industry, promote local consumption of coconut products and by products locally and internationally promote and synchronize the processing of various coconut products and by-products, source, package and disseminate information on the current situation in the coconut processing and marketing.

The officer will also organize exhibitions and trade fares to promote linkages with other stakeholders in coconut industry, monitoring of current market trends in the coconut industry, establish a coconut marketing databank, establish and maintain a data base on coconut market trends. Above all, the officer will operationalize and enforce the coconut trading rules.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, the candidate must have:
  • Served in a comparable organization for a minimum period of five (5) years;
  • A Masters Degree in Agricultural related fieds such as; Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Agriculture or Horticulture from a recognized Institution:
  • Be computer literate;
  • Demonstrated high leadership qualities, merit and ability in work performance and results.
  • Attended Senior Managers Course from recognized Institution for a period not less than three weeks;
6. QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICER - KCDA SALARY SCALE 7 (1 Post)

Duties and Responsibilities

An officer at this level will be responsible to the Senior Business Development and Quality Assurance Officer for ensuring that coconut products conform to national and international standards.

The officer will be charged with the responsibility of supervising quality inspection of coconut products at collection sheds and depots; supervising quality inspection of coconut nurseries; supervising and inspection of coconut processing factories and collaborate with other stakeholders on quality assurance.

The officer at this level will also be responsible for supervising the Quality Assurance Officers working under him/her.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, the candidate must have:
  • Worked in an equivalent comparable organization for a minimum of three (3) years in project planning and monitoring;
  • A Bachelors Degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Agribusiness or Food Technology from a recognized Institution;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Been trained and be conversant with ISO certification procedures;
  • Must have high leadership qualities, merit and ability in work performance as demonstrated by results.
  • Attended Senior Managers Course from recognized Institution for a period not less than three weeks;
7. QUALITY ASSURANCE ASSISTANT - KCDA SALARY SCALE 6 (1 post)

Duties and Responsibilities

The officer at this level will be responsible to the Quality Assurance Officer. The officer will be responsible for; inspection of products at collection sheds and depots; inspection of coconut nurseries and recommend for issuance of certificates; inspection of coconut processing factories and collect levies/fees due to the Authority.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, the candidate must have:
  • A Bachelors Degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Horticulture, Public Health, Home Economics or Food Technology from a recognized Institution;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Must have high ability in work performance as demonstrated by results.
8. SENIOR AUXILIARY SUPERVISOR -KCDA SALARY SCALE 4 (1 post)

Duties and Responsibilities

The officer at this level will be responsible to the Human Resource Officer. The Senior Supervisor will be responsible for carrying out direct supervision of an Auxiliary Staff and co-ordination of the respective day to day activities in the organization. Specifically the duties will involve supervision on cleanliness , order, timeliness of undertakings for the auxiliary staff and ensuring that the offices are sufficiently 'Served .Also a Senior Supervisor will be required to head and supervise Auxiliary Staff working in a more complex section/environment.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, the candidate must have:
  • Served as supervisor for a minimum of five (5) years;
  • A minimum of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean Grade of D plain or its equivalent; and
  • Have demonstrated supervisory abilities in their work performance and results
9. DRIVER II - KCDA SALARY SCALE 2 (1 post)

Duties and Responsibilities

The officer at this level will be responsible to the Human Resource Officer. The driver II is expected to be competent on the operations of vehicles and to detect and report common faults, He/she is also responsible for keeping the vehicle clean and carrying out minor repairs including oiling and greasing, maintenance of a work ticket for vehicles assigned to him/her recognizing and reporting abnormal operations of the vehicle; security of the vehicle on and off the road; safety of passengers and/or goods therein

For appointment to this grade, the candidate must have:
  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade D plain or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • a valid driving license free from any current endorsement(s) for class(es) or vehicle(s) an officer is required to drive;
  • adequate knowledge of the highway code;
  • at least five (3) years driving experience;
  • a current Certificate of Good Conduct from the Kenya Police;
  • Passed suitability test for Driver Grade III; and
  • First Aid certificate course lasting of not less than one (1) week from St. John Ambulance or Kenya Institute of Highways and Buildings Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized institution.
