Rural Electrification Authority (REA) Jobs and Career Opportunities

The Rural Electrification Authority (REA), a State Corporation set up under the Energy Act 2006, seeks to fill the following positions:

Job Title: Manager, Renewable Energy & Generation (MG4)

The Manager of Renewable Energy and Generation will be the overall Head of the Department of Renewable Energy and Generation.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Planning, directing, coordinating, monitoring and implementing all programmes relating to the renewable energy function;
  • Initiating, formulating, reviewing and implementing policies, programmes and strategies relating to renewable energy;
  • Developing methodologies of achieving renewable energy goals and objectives;
  • Initiating new projects;
  • Liaising with other organizations and stakeholders in promotion of renewable energy;
  • Preparation, control and overall integrity of budget for national renewable energy programmes and projects;
  • Research and training activities; and
  • Overall supervision and development of staff.
For appointment to this grade, the successful candidate must have:
  • A Bachelor of Science in any of the following engineering disciplines: Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical from a recognized university;
  • Been registered by the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya and be in possession of a current practicing license;
  • A Masters Degree in any of the following disciplines will be a definite advantage: Energy, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Forestry, Agriculture or Environmental Sciences from recognized institutions;
  • Relevant working experience of twelve (12) years five(5) of which should be in the field of Renewable Energy;
  • Served at a senior management level for three (3) years (Job Group 'P' and above in the Civil Service) or its equivalent;
  • Thorough understanding of national goals, policies and objectives and the ability to translate them into renewable energy policies and programmes;
  • High degree of professional competence and administrative capability and leadership qualities required for effective planning, direction, control and coordination of renewable energy programmes;
  • Personal integrity - a strong commitment to openness, honesty and inclusiveness demonstrable tolerance, approachability and capacity to inspire trust in others;
  • Personal responsibility - the willingness to accept responsibility for own actions and outcomes; and
  • NB: Attendance to a Leadership/Management Course will be an added advantage.
Job Title: Communications Officer (MG 9)

Reporting to the Manager, Communications, the Communication Officer is expected to strengthen the communications team and should posses excellent interpersonal and influencing skills as well as well as thorough knowledge of the media.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Development of communication and marketing strategies utilizing appropriate media and communication platforms for the target audience
  • Establishing and sustaining linkages with internal and external organizations on public affairs Management of stakeholder relationships at all levels
  • Driving initiatives that support the Authority's corporate strategy
  • Promotion of a positive corporate image
  • Preparation and distribution of journals, newsletters, corporate and other related publications to enhance communications
  • Creating and sustaining mutually beneficial relations with the media
  • Updating and upgrading the Authority's website
  • Implementing Corporate Social Responsibility programs Events Management
Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in either Mass Communications or Social sciences
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communications/Marketing/Public relations
  • Must be good in desktop publishing
  • At least five years relevant experience
  • High degree of professional competence and leadership qualities required.
Job Title: Secretary/Telephone Operator/Receptionist

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Receiving and connecting incoming and outgoing calls
  • Receiving and directing customers
  • Providing secretarial services
  • Operating other office equipment
  • Ensuring security of front office equipment
Qualifications
  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, Mean Grade C plain with at least C plain in English and Kiswahili or an equivalent qualification.
  • Telephone Operation Certificate from a recognized institution
  • Front Office Certificate from a recognized institution
  • Public Relations Certificate or Customer Care Certificate from a recognized Institution Certificate in Typing (KNEC)
  • Computer Literate
  • At least 5 years experience in relevant areas.
