Overall Responsibility

The position is located in the Housekeeping Department which is responsible for the housekeeping services for the Nairobi Womens Hospital.

To oversee and perform housekeeping duties and make decisions within a pre-established work routine to achieve the standards of the department.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Has constant contact with others in the performance of daily duties including subordinates, other employees, patients and suppliers.
  • Supervises work activities of cleaning personnel to ensure clean, orderly and attractive rooms in the hospital. ( cleaning, mopping, scrubbing, sanitizing the floors and other surfaces as well as the refinishing, waxing and polishing of floors, tile work and other various floor and wall surfaces in stairways, hallways, restrooms, offices, laboratories, recreation and wards.)
  • Ensures that all clients are provided with quality service, clean and safe environment.
  • Supervises and may participate in ensuring that common areas including meeting rooms, and waiting areas are clean and free of trash and debris. Ensures restrooms are sanitized, cleaned and stocked on a regular basis.
  • Conducts orientation training of new employees and in-service training of other employees to explain company policies, housekeeping work procedures, and to demonstrate use and maintenance of equipment.
  • Takes inventory of linens and supplies linens to areas on a daily basis.
  • Supervises and trains employees assigned to area, establish a work schedule, and resolve any coverage issues. Inventories and orders supplies and equipment necessary for the day-to-day operation.
  • Assigns workers their duties, and inspects work for conformity to prescribed standards of cleanliness.
  • Attends training seminars to perfect housekeeping techniques and procedures, and enhance supervisory skills.
  • Records data concerning work assignments, personnel actions and prepares periodic reports.
  • Attends periodic staff meetings with other section/department heads to discuss company policies and patients' complaints, and to make recommendations to improve service and ensure more efficient operation.
  • May prepare reports concerning bed occupancy, payroll expenses, and department expenses
  • Examines rooms, halls, and lobbies to determine need for repairs or replacement of furniture or equipment, and makes recommendations to management.
  • Investigates complaints regarding housekeeping service and equipment, and takes corrective action.

For 29 years, Solidarités has concentrated its action on meeting three vital needs: water, food and shelter. By carrying out emergency programmes, Solidarités acquired experience end expertise in the fields of access to drinking water and sanitation.

The joint Kenya / Somalia mission is relatively young (started in March 2007) and includes 2 projects in South Somalia, and 3 projects in Kenya.

In Kenya, SOLIDARITÉS has one project in North Horr and another one in Nairobi’s slums and is starting a new project in Turkana Central. All these projects focus on Water and Sanitation and Food Security, whether in an emergency context or a recovery context.
In Somalia, SOLIDARITÉS has one project in Bardera district / Gedo and another one in Afmadow district / Lower Juba.

SOLIDARITÉS is now opening a new project in Central Turkana District, Kerio Division. Based on its experience in ASAL context in Kenya (Chalbi District) and South Somalia (Gedo and Lower Juba), SOLIDARITES proposes the following strategy of intervention in this area:
  • Strengthen and diversify existing assets and means of livelihood (rehabilitation of water points, capacity building of Water User Committee, Support to Agro-pastoralists households and to Fishermen communities…)
  • Put in place a capacity of emergency response (de-stocking, de-worming, water trucking)
Objective of the position:
  • The Field Coordinator is the responsible of the overall conduct of the program in each and all of its components: representation, management, activities, needs evaluation, logistics, security management and administration.
  • Particularly, the Field Coordinator will be responsible of the opening of this new project.
  • He manages his team to achieve the humanitarian objectives as defined per the proposal and according to Solidarités principles.

Qualifications and experience requested

Education:
  • Minimum Bachelor or equivalent in a degree relevant with Humanitarian actions (Project management, watsan, livestock…). Generalist approach.
Experience:
  • At least 2 years of experience in a senior equivalent management position with NGOs
  • At least 5 years of experience in project implementation with NGOs
  • At least 1 year of field experience with NGOs in conflict areas
  • Previous experience in dealing with Drought Preparedness projects
  • Previous experience with Solidarités (good knowledge of Solidarités procedures) is a clear advantage
  • Previous experience in opening phase of a new project is a clear advantage

2. Position: Administrator and Logistics Manager

Objective of the position:
  • Manage the field project logistics and administrative issues.
  • Insure Solidarités’ logistics and administrative procedures are in place and applied properly by persons involved in the projects implementation.
  • Insure transparency of the whole process and that support to the program is efficient (Finance, Human Resources, Logistics, Supplies …)
Hierarchy
  • Under the authority of the Field Coordinator
  • Collaborate with Administrative Coordinator and Logistic Coordinator (they are your technical referees respectively in Administrative and Logistics matters).
  • Collaborate with Program managers and field staff under order departments.
  • Responsible of all locally recruited staff working in the Logistics and Administration department.
  • Log Admin staffs at the present moment include: Administrator Assistant in charge of the cashbox (to be recruited), Logistics Assistant and Cleaner.

Geothermal Development Company Limited (GDC) is a large organization engaged in exploration and development of geothermal resources in Kenya.

This will involve geothermal surface exploration and working on drill rigs in Barrier, Namarunu, Emuruangogalak, Silali, Paka and Korosi volcanic fields of the Northern Kenya Rift Valley.

Background

Additional Experiences Required:
  • Use of at least one of the following soft ware: Erdas Imagine, ENVI, GRASS ,ArcGlS, Arclnfo, Maplnfo, QGIS, or equivalent.
  • Use of GIS tools and vector/raster joint handling techniques. Experience with at least one of the following softwares: ArcGIS, Arclnfo, Maplnfo, QGIS, or equivalent.
  • Significant experience in DBMS (MS SQL Server),Oracle, ideally in open source systems (MySQL, PostGreSQL).
